How often should I sharpen the chain?

It is advisable to review the edge whenever the chain begins to produce fine sawdust instead of large shavings, when you notice that you have to push the chainsaw to make it cut, or when excessive vibrations appear. In intensive professional use it may be necessary to sharpen several times a day; in domestic use, every few work sessions.

How do you sharpen a chain correctly?

Place the chainsaw firmly on a stable surface and lock the chain. Pass the file from the inside of the tooth to the outside at a constant angle (usually 25-30°) and in regular passes (3-5 per tooth). Sharpen all the teeth the same number of passes so that they are even. A sharpening guide helps a lot in maintaining the correct angle.

When is it better to replace the chain than sharpen it?

When the teeth have lost more than 30-40% of their original height due to successive sharpening, when cracks or deformed links appear, or when you can no longer recover the cut no matter how much you sharpen. A chain at the limit of its useful life is no longer safe and compromises work productivity.
